ST.ROQUE CHURCH TOLLECANTO
The village of Velim houses two churches and a chapel. They are namely ST ROQUE CHURCH , ST FRANCIS XAVIER CHURCH and HOLY CROSS CHAPEL BARADI. ST ROQUE CHURCH was originally a chapel built in 1883.It was affiliated to the Velim parish which consisted of the above church and chapels. As the population of Tollecanto had increased and the people from the area were finding it very difficult to walk to velim for burials. The people realised the need of a separate church in Tollecanto
In 1955 the Tollecanto chapel was made separate church, Detaching it from Velim parish. The Tollecanto parish was formed, It constituted of Tollecanto church and Baradi chapel with a common burial ground near the church.
The chapel was turned into a church in 1955 but it was not renovated nor expanded due to financial position of the church. It is one of the smallest churches in Goa. Now with the help of parishioners the church is currently being renovated and there also plans of expansion. The educational institution in the parish is ST ROCK'S HIGH SCHOOL. It is next to the church.
